Licensed Professional Counselor # 6030
I attended college at the University of Kentucky where I received my B.A. in Communications. Upon graduation I joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ. During my three years on staff I served at the Headquarters in Orlando, Florida as an assistant to the president and founder Dr. Bill Bright.
After my time with Crusade I joined the staff of River of Life, PCA in Southwest Orlando. During my five years with River of Life I managed the daily operations and helped develop the Men's and Home Group ministries. I also attened Reformed Theological Seminary where I received my M.A. in Counseling in 2006.
After graduating I began counseling full-time on staff with Grace Clinic Christian Counseling in Winter Park, Florida. At Grace I had the privelege of seeing individuals, couples, and adolescents. The issues that I worked with included: anger, sexual addiction, anxiety, and sexual abuse recovery.
In addition to my private practice I also staff conferneces for New Life (www.newlife.com) a counseling ministry founded by radio host Steve Arterburn.
When I am not counseling I love martial arts, fly fishing and hiking with my wife and our 2 children.
I believe the key to effective counseling involves getting beneath the surface to the core of a person's struggles. This means that in session I don't just focus on the symptoms, but rather those things that are fueling the symptoms.
I have found that often the issues we struggle with are self-centered attempts to deal with deep pain and meet our own needs apart from God and others. I seek to create a safe place where a client can explore their heart and the life-story that has shaped them.
Along with that I want to challenge them to new ways of living that involve moving away from empty self-reliance and toward meaningful relationship with God and loved ones.
